Schubert's Octet

  • Fidelio Cafe 91-95 Clerkenwell Road London, EC1R 5BX United Kingdom (map)

At this exclusive concert, eight of the Fidelio Orchestra’s finest will play Schubert’s Octet in the welcoming confines of the Fidelio cafe’s downstairs music room.

The composer wrote this captivating piece, scored for 3 wind instruments and 5 string instruments, around the same time that he was composing two of his most famous chamber works, the 'Rosamunde' and 'Death and the Maiden' string quartets. Its composition was a tribute to Beethoven, whose similarly scored septet Schubert adored, and was dedicated the Archduke Rudolph, to whom Beethoven had dedicated his famous ‘Archduke’ trio.
